Kamakahonu

Kamakahonu, located at the north end of Kailua Bay in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, was the residence of Kamehameha I, the unifier of the Hawaiian Islands. This historic site features the reconstructed ʻAhuʻena heiau, a personal shrine of the king, and was the backdrop for significant events, including the arrival of the first American Christian missionaries in 1820. Today, it is part of the King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel, which includes a museum and cultural center showcasing artifacts from the era. The area is also known for its scenic beach, ideal for canoe launching and swimming, and serves as the start and finish point for the Ironman World Championship Triathlon.
