Westhoughton Mill

Westhoughton Mill, located in Westhoughton near Bolton, England, is a historic site with a rich industrial past. Built in 1804, it became infamous during the Luddite uprising of 1812 when a group of weavers attempted to destroy the mill's power looms in protest against the loss of their livelihoods. The mill was set ablaze, leading to severe government reprisals, including executions and transportation of rioters. After being rebuilt and converted to a corn mill, it returned to cotton production but eventually ceased operations and was demolished in 1912. Today, the site remains a vacant lot, offering a glimpse into the tumultuous history of the Industrial Revolution in England.
