Wishaw House

Wishaw House, a once-grand mansion in Wishaw, Scotland, served as the family seat of the Belhavens and Hamiltons. Built in 1665 on land purchased by Lord Belhaven, it incorporated older farmsteads and underwent significant renovations, notably by architect James Gillespie Graham in 1825. The mansion's decline began after the death of the 8th Lord of Belhaven in 1868, leading to its auction in 1951 and eventual demolition in 1957. Today, visitors can explore the ruins nestled in woodland by the South Calder Water, while the town of Wishaw, named in the 1700s, reflects its historical significance. Notably, composer Frédéric Chopin visited and performed at the house in 1848.
