Etz Chaim Synagogue (Athens)

The Etz Chaim Synagogue, an Orthodox Jewish congregation in Athens, Greece, was completed in 1904 by Greek Romaniote Jews from Ioannina. Located in the Thiseio area, it is also known as the 'Romanian' or 'Yannonian' synagogue. The synagogue has a rich history, having been part of the first Jewish community established in Athens in 1889. After suffering damage from the 1999 earthquake, it underwent significant renovations and reopened in 2007. While it serves the community during major religious celebrations, regular ceremonies are held at the nearby Beth Shalom Synagogue, both led by Rabbi Gabriel Negrin.
