Liberty Hotel (former Charles Street Jail)

The Liberty Hotel occupies the former Charles Street Jail, a granite jailhouse designed by Gridley J.F. Bryant and completed in 1851. The building retains its jail-era rotunda and some architectural features that were incorporated into the hotel's public spaces during a 2007 adaptive reuse conversion. The transformation from an active jail to a luxury hotel is a documented example of historic preservation and adaptive reuse in Boston.
