Alaska State Capitol

The Alaska State Capitol, located in Juneau, serves as the home of the Alaska Legislature and the offices of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor. Opened in 1931, this six-story building features a unique architectural style with a facade of Indiana limestone and Tokeen marble columns. It lacks a dome, making it one of the few state capitols without this feature. Visitors can explore the lobby adorned with clay murals and a bust of Alaska Native activist Elizabeth Peratrovich, as well as the chambers of the Senate and House of Representatives. The Capitol has undergone significant restorations and seismic upgrades, preserving its historical charm while serving as a vital center of governance in Alaska.
