William Koger House (Smithsonia, Alabama)

The William Koger House, built around 1830, is a historic residence located near Smithsonia, Alabama. Constructed by Virginia planters William and Martha Koger, this Tidewater-type cottage served as the centerpiece of a 630-acre plantation. The house features distinctive brickwork, twin chimneys, and a large arched window added in the late 19th century. Notably, it lacks a porch, which is uncommon for its architectural style. After William's death, Martha managed the plantation until her passing in 1892. The house was recognized for its historical significance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, making it an interesting site for tourists and researchers alike.
