Upsala (mansion)

Upsala is a historic mansion located in Mount Airy, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, renowned for its Federal architecture and significance in American history. Built in 1797 by John Johnson, III, the mansion served as a staging ground for the Continental Army during the 1777 Battle of Germantown. The property has been preserved as part of the Colonial Germantown Historic District and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After a period of decline, it was restored by local preservationists and has been featured in popular culture, including the film 'A Chronicle of Corpses.' Today, Upsala is being transformed back into a private residence while still hosting annual reenactments of the historic battle.
