Hotel Britanika

Hotel Britanika is an unfinished hotel building located in central Kaunas, Lithuania, originally intended to be a 14-storey, 500-bed establishment. Construction began in 1986 during the late Soviet era but halted in the early 1990s, leaving the structure as a prominent example of post-Soviet urban stagnation. The building, often referred to as a 'reinforced-concrete monster', has become a symbol of investment failures and architectural debates in the region. Despite its dilapidated state, it has attracted public interest, notably during the 2019 Kaunas Architecture Festival, which allowed visitors to explore its upper floors. As of 2025, the building remains unused and structurally intact, with its future uncertain amidst ongoing discussions about potential redevelopment or demolition.
