Wheat Row

Wheat Row is a historic row of four Late Georgian style townhouses located in the Southwest Waterfront neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Constructed between 1794 and 1795, these townhouses are among the oldest residential buildings in the city and were the first example of terraced houses in the District. Initially unsuccessful due to their small size and outdated design, they have served various community purposes over the years, including as residences and art galleries. In 1963, Wheat Row was integrated into the Harbour Square cooperative and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in early American architecture and urban development.
