Roscommon Courthouse

Roscommon Courthouse, located on Abbey Street in County Roscommon, Ireland, is a historic judicial facility designed by Sir Richard Morrison in the neoclassical style and completed in 1832. The courthouse has a rich history, having replaced earlier venues for justice and serving as a meeting place for the Roscommon County Council until 2015. Notably, it was gutted by a fire in 1882 but was restored the following year. The building features a striking symmetrical facade with Doric columns, a mosaic of the Roscommon crest, and a portrait of Douglas Hyde, the first president of Ireland. Although it has faced challenges, including a recent move of court sittings due to its dilapidated condition, plans for refurbishment are anticipated. The courthouse remains a significant landmark, reflecting the architectural heritage and historical narrative of the region.
