Sunset Cliffs Natural Park - late Pleistocene marine terraces

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park exposes rocky shore platforms and uplifted late Pleistocene marine terraces along the Point Loma headland that contain fossil marine shells and associated deposits recorded in regional geologic surveys. These terrace exposures are frequently cited in California coastal geology literature as local fossil-bearing formations. The park is managed by the City of San Diego and collecting or disturbing geological features there is prohibited.
