The Embrace (MLK and Coretta Scott King memorial)

The Embrace is a bronze-clad monument on Boston Common that memorializes Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King. Designed by artist Hank Willis Thomas with collaborators, the work depicts two large interlocking arms forming an embrace and was installed on the Common in January 2023. Its abstracted form departs from traditional figurative memorials and generated public discussion about design and placement.
