Heidelberg Project (Tyree Guyton)

The Heidelberg Project is an outdoor art environment created by artist Tyree Guyton beginning in 1986 on Heidelberg Street in Detroit's McDougall-Hunt neighborhood. It consists of painted houses, salvaged materials and found-object sculptures assembled into large-scale installations along the street. The project has attracted national attention, been featured in books and exhibitions, and undergone cycles of demolition, restoration, and community-led conservation.
