Grass Mountain Chateau

The Grass Mountain Chateau, located in Beitou District, Taipei, is a historic former residence of Chiang Kai-shek, the late President of the Republic of China. Built in 1920 by the Taiwan Sugar Corporation, it originally served as a recreational facility for Japanese royalty, including a visit from Emperor Hirohito. After the Kuomintang's relocation to Taiwan in 1949, it became Chiang's official residence for a year. Today, the chateau is a public historical museum and art exhibition center, having undergone restoration after a significant fire in 2001. Nestled within Yangmingshan National Park, it offers visitors a glimpse into Taiwan's rich history and beautiful landscapes.
