155 Mercer Street

155 Mercer Street is a historic building in SoHo, New York City, originally constructed in 1855 as a firemen's hall. Designed by Field & Correja, it features a rich history, including serving as a firehouse until 1974. The building transitioned to cultural use when the Dia Art Foundation acquired it, opening the Masjid al-Farah Sufi mosque in 1980, which showcased Dan Flavin's artworks. After the mosque's closure in 1985, it became a rehearsal and performance space for contemporary dance. In 2012, the building was renovated to reflect its original design and is now utilized as a commercial property, making it a notable site for both tourists and researchers interested in New York's architectural and cultural evolution.
