Wallace E. Pratt House

The Wallace E. Pratt House, also known as Ship on the Desert, is a historic residence located in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Texas. Built between 1941 and 1945 for petroleum geologist Wallace Pratt, the house showcases International Style architecture with its horizontal lines and extensive use of glass, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The house, constructed primarily of local limestone, features a unique design that includes a rooftop terrace. After serving as a home for the Pratts until 1963, it was donated to the national park and has been used for park service employees. Occasionally, it is open for tours, making it a fascinating stop for tourists and researchers interested in architecture and history. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was recognized as one of the most-endangered historic locations in 2018.
