Roak Block

The Roak Block, located at 144-170 Main Street in Auburn, Maine, is a historic commercial-industrial building constructed between 1871 and 1872. Notable for its Second Empire architectural style, it was the largest commercial building in Maine at the time of its completion. The structure features a distinctive mansard roof with dormers and a long façade divided into retail storefronts on the ground floor. Originally designed to support small shoe manufacturing businesses, the upper levels have since been repurposed for senior housing. The Roak Block was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, making it a significant landmark for both tourists and researchers interested in Maine's industrial history.
