Legion of Honor (Lincoln Park replica)

The Legion of Honor museum opened in 1924 as a gift from Alma de Bretteville Spreckels and was modeled after the French Pavilion at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. The neoclassical building sits on a promontory in Lincoln Park and houses European art and antiquities, its colonnaded facade and reflective pool intentionally echoing the original Pavillon de France. The site is a prominent example of early 20th-century Beaux-Arts civic architecture in San Francisco.
