70 and 72 Micklegate

70 and 72 Micklegate is a historic shop located in the heart of York, England, with origins dating back to around 1500. Initially a two-storey timber-framed house, it underwent significant changes over the centuries, including the addition of a third storey in the 17th century and extensive alterations in the 19th century. The building features a distinctive facade of dull red brick, bow windows, and retains elements from various periods, including 17th-century doors and Regency decorations. It was home to Ken Spelman Books from 1948 until its closure in 2022 and has been recognized as a Grade II* listed building since 1954, making it an important site for both tourists and researchers interested in York's architectural heritage.
