Chaffee-Moloney Houses

The Chaffee-Moloney Houses, located in Rutland, Vermont, are historic brick residences built in 1885, showcasing the Queen Anne/Eastlake architectural style. These two structures, one a single-family home and the other a duplex, are notable for their association with Thomas W. Moloney, a prominent Irish-American attorney who significantly influenced the city's charter. The houses were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. Originally built by Frederick Chaffee & Son, they have served various purposes over the years, including housing for middle-class families and later as a 'girls colony' for the Brandon State School. Today, they have been converted into affordable housing units, making them a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring Vermont's architectural and social history.
