Visakhapatnam Central Prison

Visakhapatnam Central Prison, located in Adavivaram, Andhra Pradesh, is a significant correctional facility serving the North Coastal districts of Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, and Vizianagaram. Originally established in 1908 in the city center, the prison was relocated in 2001 to its current site, which is 14 kilometers from the city center. With a designed capacity of 914, the prison currently houses around 1900 inmates, many of whom are tribals from the ASR district facing charges related to drug offenses. The facility also accommodates female prisoners and those awaiting trial. The prison plays a crucial role in the region's correctional system, providing custody and care for a diverse inmate population.
