National World War II Memorial

The National World War II Memorial, dedicated in 2004, honors Americans who served in the armed forces and as civilians during World War II and is located on the National Mall between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. The memorial features 56 granite pillars representing U.S. states and territories and two triumphal arches for the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, centered on a plaza and fountain. It is administered by the National Park Service and is a frequent site for commemorative ceremonies.
