Mission San Francisco de Asís (Mission Dolores)

Mission San Francisco de Asís, commonly called Mission Dolores, was founded in 1776 as part of the Spanish mission chain and contains the oldest surviving building in San Francisco. The site includes the Mission Dolores Basilica and an adjacent cemetery where early settlers and Native converts were buried. It remains an active Catholic parish and a frequent destination for religious visitors, historians, and those making devotional visits to California's mission sites. The mission's original adobe church and burial ground draw pilgrims interested in early California Catholic history and worship.
