Central Powerhouse

The Central Powerhouse, also known as the Town of Moriah Water Department Building, was a historic power station in Witherbee, Essex County, New York. Constructed in 1902, this impressive brick structure featured a steeply pitched gable roof and included a main block with a two-stage cast stone addition built in 1904-1905. It served as a transformer house and coal ash hopper. The building was significant enough to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, but unfortunately, it was demolished in 2001. Today, it stands as a reminder of early 20th-century industrial architecture and the evolution of power generation in the region.
