Williges Building

The Williges Building, also known as the Cownie-Williges Building, is a historic three-story commercial block located in Sioux City, Iowa. Designed by local architects William L. Steele and George Hilgers, it was completed in 1930 for fur manufacturer August Williges. The building features decorative terra cotta details in a Sullivanesque style, showcasing Steele's connection to renowned architect Louis Sullivan. As one of the last commercial buildings in the early Prairie School style and the final architectural project by Steele in Sioux City, it represents a significant period in architectural history. The Williges Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007, making it a noteworthy site for tourists and researchers interested in American architectural heritage.
