John Lennon homicide outside The Dakota

On December 8, 1980, John Lennon was shot and fatally wounded by Mark David Chapman outside the Dakota apartment building. The shooting occurred at the building's entrance at 1 West 72nd Street; Lennon was transported to Roosevelt Hospital and pronounced dead. Chapman remained at the scene and was subsequently arrested and later convicted of murder.
