Scholz Garten - historic German beer garden

Scholz Garten was founded by German immigrant August Scholz in 1866 and operates as a German-style beer garden that has served Austinites for more than a century. It is widely recognized as one of the city’s oldest continuously operating restaurants and a longtime gathering place for University of Texas events, political rallies, and community gatherings. Some sources describe Scholz Garten as the oldest continuously operating business in Texas, a claim that is debated. The venue has preserved traditional beer-garden features and hosts regular public events.
