Parran Hall

Parran Hall, now known as the Public Health Building, is a significant academic structure at the University of Pittsburgh, originally completed in 1957 to house the Graduate School of Public Health. Designed in the International Style by Eggers & Higgins, it features a striking bronze sculpture titled 'Man' by Virgil Cantini, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge in health research. The building underwent major renovations and expansions, including a 57,000-square-foot addition completed in 2013, enhancing its research facilities. The building's name was changed in 2018 due to controversies surrounding its namesake, Thomas Parran Jr., a former U.S. Surgeon General linked to unethical medical experiments. Today, it serves as a hub for public health education and research, making it a noteworthy destination for tourists and researchers alike.
