Anglo-Russian Hospital

The Anglo-Russian Hospital, established in Petrograd during World War I, served as a symbol of British support for Russia, operating from 1915 to 1918. Located in the historic Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace, it was funded by notable figures like Lady Muriel Paget and Lady Sybil Grey, who also set up field hospitals along the Eastern Front. Renowned neurosurgeon Geoffrey Jefferson worked here, and the hospital was notable for visits from Tsarina Alexandra and her daughters. Interestingly, Prince Felix Yusupov received treatment for a fish bone injury here shortly after the infamous murder of Rasputin. The hospital closed following the October Revolution, leading to the evacuation of its staff to England.
