Jerome Mansion

The Jerome Mansion, located in Manhattan's NoMad neighborhood, was an opulent residence built between 1859 and 1865 for financier Leonard Jerome, a prominent figure in 19th-century New York. This six-story mansion featured luxurious amenities including a grand ballroom, a theatre, and stunning views of Madison Square Park. Notably, it was the childhood home of Jennie Jerome, mother of Winston Churchill. After Jerome's departure, the mansion served as a venue for prestigious clubs and was the founding site of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1869. Despite being designated a landmark in 1965, it was demolished in 1967 to make way for the New York Merchandise Mart, marking the end of an era for this historic site.
