Tokatlıyan Hotels

The Tokatlıyan Hotels, established by Meguerditch Tokatliyan in the late 19th century, were two luxurious hotels in Istanbul that attracted notable guests like Leon Trotsky and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The Beyoğlu branch, originally Hotel Splendide, became a social hub for Istanbul's elite before facing challenges during the First World War. The Tarabya branch, opened in 1909, was a popular summer retreat on the Bosphorus but suffered a fire in 1954. Both hotels have left a cultural mark, featuring in works by authors like Orhan Pamuk and Agatha Christie, and the Tarabya branch has been a backdrop for various Turkish films and TV shows, making them significant landmarks for tourists and researchers alike.
