Jesmond Synagogue

Jesmond Synagogue, now known as Byzantine House, is a historic former Orthodox synagogue located in the Jesmond neighborhood of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Established in 1914, it served the local Jewish community until its closure in 1986. The building, designed by Marcus Kenneth Glass in an Art Deco Byzantine Revival style, features a striking facade with a large stained-glass window and intricate brickwork. After its closure, the interior was renovated for educational use and later converted into flats. A commemorative plaque was unveiled in 2019 to honor its rich history, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in Jewish heritage and architectural history.
