Davis Avenue Recreation Center

The Davis Avenue Recreation Center, established in 1921 in Mobile, Alabama, is a historic site recognized as the first public leisure center for African Americans in a segregated city. Originally known as the Davis Avenue Community House, it included tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a small park. The current structure, completed in 1936 with Works Progress Administration funding, is notable for its historical significance and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011, highlighting its importance in African American history.
