Tate House (Morganton, North Carolina)

Tate House, also known as The Cedars, is a historic mansion located in Morganton, North Carolina, built around 1850. This two-story brick structure showcases Greek Revival architecture and features a center hall plan. In 1868, it underwent significant remodeling in the Second Empire style, adding a distinctive mansard roof and a striking three-story octagonal tower. The house was the residence of Samuel McDowell Tate, who was instrumental in its transformation. Recognized for its historical significance, Tate House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, making it a noteworthy destination for tourists and researchers interested in architectural history.
