Colegio de Santa Cruz de Tlatelolco

The Colegio de Santa Cruz de Tlatelolco, established on January 6, 1536, is the oldest European institution of higher learning in the Americas and the first major school for interpreters and translators in the New World. Founded by the Franciscans on the site of an Aztec school, it aimed to educate Native American boys for the Catholic priesthood.
