The Menger Hotel - historic hospitality and civic gatherings

The Menger Hotel, opened in 1859 adjacent to the Alamo, is one of San Antonio’s oldest continuously operating hotels and has hosted numerous political, social, and cultural figures over its history. The hotel’s bar and public rooms have been associated with civic meetings and local social life since the 19th century; Theodore Roosevelt is recorded to have recruited Rough Riders there in 1898. The Menger remains a historic lodging and event venue contributing to downtown San Antonio’s cultural heritage.
