Daniel Chester French’s seated Abraham Lincoln statue

The 19-foot seated statue of Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial was designed by sculptor Daniel Chester French and carved from large blocks of Georgia marble by the Piccirilli Brothers. The single monumental sculpture is the central feature of the memorial and is widely recognized as a unique commemorative work created specifically for that site. The memorial and statue were dedicated in 1922 and remain primary components of the National Mall landscape.
