Whitehill-Gleason Motors

Whitehill-Gleason Motors, located at 5815 Baum Boulevard in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood, is a historic site built in the 1920s on the location of the first drive-in filling station in the United States, established in 1913. This landmark was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999 and received a Pennsylvania Historical Marker in 2000. The original drive-in facility by Gulf Refining Company revolutionized automobile service by allowing motorists to conveniently purchase gasoline, oil, and maintenance services, contributing to the growth of drive-in stations across the country.
