Cathedral of Junk (hidden backyard sculpture)

The Cathedral of Junk is a large, labyrinthine assemblage sculpture built over decades in a private South Austin backyard by artist Vince Hannemann using thousands of discarded objects. Located on a residential lot, it is not a conventional public museum; visits have historically been limited to appointments, occasional open days, or chance encounters, making it literally hard to find and access. The installation is a documented piece of Austin folk art and has been covered in local and national media.
