Fort Caroline and the Timucua (French–Timucua contact site)

Fort Caroline National Memorial commemorates the 1564 French Huguenot settlement established near the St. Johns River and interprets the historical contacts and alliances between the French and the local Timucua chiefdom known as the Saturiwa. Archaeological research and park exhibits discuss Timucua settlement patterns and the role of indigenous residents in the region during the 16th century. The site is administered by the National Park Service and provides interpretive information about indigenous presence in the Jacksonville area.
