Pennsylvania Hospital (America's first hospital)

Founded in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond, Pennsylvania Hospital is the first hospital in the United States chartered to care for the sick and mentally ill. Its campus on the city's center-city block includes historic 18th- and 19th-century buildings and has continuously served patients since the 18th century. The institution has played a longstanding role in medical care and education in Philadelphia.
