Mackay Town Hall

Mackay Town Hall, located at 63 Sydney Street in Mackay, Queensland, is a heritage-listed site that showcases the city's rich history. Built in 1912 by local builder Charles Porter and designed by architect Arthur Rigby, it served as the second town hall for the area. The hall reflects the growth of Mackay from a small settlement in the 1860s to a bustling town with essential services. Notably, it survived the devastating 1918 Mackay cyclone, providing refuge for evacuees. The building features a central tower, although the intended clock was never installed. After the council moved to a new administration building in 1974, there was a significant public outcry to preserve the Town Hall, leading to its restoration in the early 1980s. Today, it stands as a testament to Mackay's heritage and community spirit.
