Bayt al-Razzaz

Bayt al-Razzaz is a historic mansion located in the Darb al-Ahmar neighborhood of medieval Cairo, Egypt, built from the late 15th century to the late 18th century. This expansive 190-room urban palace features two houses, central courtyards, and various utility structures, showcasing exquisite Mamluk architectural elements such as decorative mashrabiya windows and intricately carved wooden details. Originally constructed by Sultan Qaytbay in the 15th century and later expanded by a wealthy rice merchant, the mansion has a rich history tied to the families that occupied it for centuries. Although abandoned in the 1960s, restoration efforts have revitalized part of the complex, making it a hub for local artisans and craftsmen. Visitors can explore its architectural beauty and cultural significance, while future restoration plans aim to preserve its legacy amidst ongoing challenges.
