Academy of Music (historic opera house)

The Academy of Music opened in 1857 and is the oldest opera house in the United States still used for its original purpose. The ornate 19th-century theater has continuously hosted opera, ballet, and concert performances and remains a functioning performing-arts venue on Broad Street. Its historic interior and ongoing role in Philadelphia's cultural life make it a longstanding creative landmark.
