Harastølen

Harastølen, formerly known as Lyster Sanatorium, is a historic building located in Luster, Norway, perched 500 meters above the Lustrafjorden. Established in 1902, it served as the largest tuberculosis sanatorium in Norway until 1958, treating around 15,000 patients with innovative methods for its time. The architect Adolph Fischer designed the expansive 5,000 square meter facility, which included amenities such as a bakery, cinema, and library. After its closure, it transitioned to a psychiatric hospital and later an asylum seeker center, stirring local controversy. In recent years, the derelict site has attracted urban explorers and filmmakers, notably featured in the horror movie Villmark Asylum. Plans are underway to renovate the building into a hotel, preserving its rich history while offering a unique destination for tourists and researchers alike.
