Riparian cottonwoods and mesquites at Chamizal National Memorial

Chamizal National Memorial preserves a portion of the Rio Grande floodplain where native Rio Grande cottonwood (Populus fremontii) and honey mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa) are present as part of a restored riparian bosque. The site includes interpretive trails and landscaping that highlight these native trees and their role in the river corridor ecosystem. The memorial integrates natural-history interpretation of the bosque with its cultural and historical exhibits about the U.S.–Mexico boundary dispute.
