Lundberg Bakery (Austin, Texas)

The Lundberg Bakery, now known as the Old Bakery and Emporium, is a historic site located at 1006 Congress Avenue in downtown Austin, Texas, just south of the Texas State Capitol. Built in 1876, this limestone and brick structure originally served as a bakery until 1936. It features a distinctive cast-iron eagle atop its gabled roof and has a rich history, including connections to notable figures like writer William Sydney Porter. After being saved from demolition in the 1970s, the building was refurbished and now houses the Lundberg-Maerki Historical Collection, an art gallery, and a consignment store showcasing local artisans. Visitors can also find a tourist information center, making it a great stop for those exploring Austin's attractions.
