Department of the Treasury building (historic federal department building)

Construction of the Department of the Treasury building began in 1836 and the structure was expanded through the mid‑19th century, with significant work completed by 1869; it is among the earliest purpose‑built federal department buildings in Washington. The building houses the Office of the Secretary of the Treasury and other departmental offices and is noted for its classical architectural elements and stone façades. It continues to function as the principal headquarters for the U.S. Treasury Department.
