Mission San Francisco de Asís (Mission Dolores) and Junípero Serra

Mission San Francisco de Asís, commonly called Mission Dolores, was established in 1776 by Spanish Franciscan missionaries under Father Junípero Serra and is the oldest surviving structure in San Francisco. The present adobe church dates largely to the late 18th century and the site includes an adjacent cemetery containing graves of early Californians. The mission is a documented foundational site in the city's Spanish colonial history.
